Informed K12 provides the schools the opportunity to escape the burden of their operating requirements, giving them more time for truly important work, without having to disrupt how they operate.

The company doing well! In 2020, they got to 135% of their yearly sales target by October, had maintained that momentum in 2021, and things don’t seem to be slowing down in 2022. They’re a growing company, looking to continue doing so sustainably and responsibly, and are in it for the long haul.

How is this job unique?
Through everything they do, Informed K12 has a committed focus on having an equitable, diverse, and inclusive culture. How they sell their platform, how they support their districts, and how they write their code. Every team and process works in a way that takes those values and goals into consideration. They conduct onsite research to understand the day-to-day of everyone who touches the platform from the front office secretary at the school site to the assistant superintendent of business in the district office. They also work to be intentional in how they collaborate as an engineering team to make sure that their newest engineers are supported and have the space to speak up and that their most senior people continue to have space to learn and hone their craft.

Your Mission:

There’s a lot to do! They will need your help:

  • Scaling architecture (app and database) to performantly support a growing user base
  • Leveling up the team through your mentorship
  • Defining how the next-level vision for their platform can happen
  • Planning out the engineering roadmap for the next year
  • Exploring the space and finding solutions to problems that they may not even know they have
  • Contributing to their engineering culture that encourages everyone to bring their whole selves to work
  • A little bit of everything both in engineering and across the company

Their Stack
Rails 6.0, Postgresql, Typescript (React/jQuery/Vanilla), Sass CSS, Sidekiq, Circle CI, Heroku, Github

Their platform does a lot of complicated things so they try to limit complexity to where it is needed. Similarly, they try to use technology that is mature and focuses on effectiveness over current trends. This platform is built on a Rails monolith with 100% unit test coverage as well as integration testing for the “happy path” (all tests run in ~7 minutes on CI). With a small team, they try to automate what they can while writing clean readable code with great commit messages. It’s not a perfect codebase! But it does some important things very well.
